Plantly is now open in beta

Plantly is open. Anyone can create a garden, add what they are growing, and keep track of it through the season. It is free, and it is genuinely a beta: it works, it is in daily use, and there are rough edges.

What it does

You pick a variety, and Plantly shows you when to sow it, when to plant it out and when to expect a harvest, using the timings from the supplier who actually sells that seed. Log what you did and the timeline fills in as the year goes on.

Greenhouse crops are tracked separately from outdoor ones, because sowing under glass starts earlier and pretending otherwise makes the dates wrong.

The catalogue is public now

You no longer need an account to look things up. There are 49 plants and 782 varieties, with sowing timings from the suppliers who list them, and you can browse the lot without signing up.

If a variety has no supplier listed, you can still add it and set your own dates. Knowing a variety exists is useful whether or not anyone is selling it today.

What is rough

• Most varieties do not yet show a supplier. Those listings are in draft while we check them, and they are being published as we work through them.
• There are no photographs yet.
• Seasonal guidance is only just starting.
