Hi, I'm David.
I started growing years ago with a few pots of hot chilli peppers and tomatoes. Now I've got my own allotment plot, where I have room to grow a wide variety of plants and to experiment.
Plantly is my personal side project. I built it for myself, and I use it to help me grow plants.
Keeping on top of it all
I grow more than I can hold in my head. Which seeds I planted and when, what should have gone out a fortnight ago, whether the second sowing of something ever actually happened. Some seasons there has been more on the go than I could keep track of, and by August I genuinely couldn't have told you what I had done.
So that's what Plantly is first: somewhere to plan what you're going to grow, keep it organised through the season, and write down what happened as you go. Each plant carries its own timings, so the year lays itself out visually in front of you instead of living in your memory.
Choosing what to grow
Search the catalogue and you'll find each variety listed by the suppliers who sell it. Pick one, and that listing's sowing, planting and harvest dates become the dates in your garden.
Suppliers don't always agree. The same variety can carry different dates from two companies, and neither of them is wrong: each is describing the seed it actually sells. Plantly shows you every listing as its supplier published it, so you can see where they differ and choose the one that matches how you grow.
Most seed packets give their dates for sowing outdoors, and under glass timings are not always on the growing grid even when the description mentions them. So if you're sowing under cover, where you can usually start earlier, mark the plant that way in your garden and set your own dates for it.
Not using seeds from a listed supplier? Maybe you saved your own, or someone handed you an envelope with a name pencilled on it. Add the plant or variety yourself and set your own dates. It sits in your garden alongside everything else.

If you sell seed and would like your varieties listed, get in touch at the same address. Each supplier's listings keep their own timings, descriptions and prices rather than being merged into a single averaged entry, so what a user sees is what you published.
